Dr Jasper Horrell currently fills the role of General Manager: Science Computing and Innovation of SKA South Africa. He has been part of the SKA SA project and involved in the SKA international project since 2004, focusing largely on the development of the scientific computing systems for the SKA pathfinder radio telescopes such as KAT-7 and MeerKAT. In addition to being part of the project executive team, areas of recent focus include coordination of SKA SA’s contribution to the pre-construction phase of the SKA and the development of the innovation and commercialisation side of the SKA SA activities. He is based in Cape Town with the SKA SA engineering team and, prior to joining SKA SA, had backgrounds in physics, electrical engineering and commercial software development.
