Prof Arnold van Zyl is the Rector of Chemnitz University of Technology since 1 April 2012.
1977 - 1982: Studies in Chemical Engineering at the University of Cape Town (South Africa)
1987: PhD in Engineering at the University of Cape Town (South Africa)
1987 - 1990: Post-doctoral Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research in Stuttgart (Germany)
1990 - 2000: Various leading positions in the R&D-sector of Daimler in Stuttgart, Ulm and Brussels (Belgium)
2001 - 2007: Representative of the European transport sector in San Diego (USA) and Brussels (Belgium)
2008 - 2012: Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation at Stellenbosch University (South Africa)
In recognition of his commitment and his scientific achievements he was awarded Honorary Professor of Tongji University, China.
He is member of the Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf) and a fellow of the SA Academy of Engineering.
